Thanks...it is a big difference...especially anything "decent" compared to the 130 4-speaker stuff. Tearing into it all made me feel completely justified complaining about the stereo/soundsystem as much as I did, lol.
I have 3 of the 4 speakers in...just lack modifying the driver's side door pod and of course reassembling everything. We've got a cruise Saturday that I am hoping to make although I don't think there is any way I'll have the amp rack done...I might just find a way to temporarily anchor it and drive slow (for a change, haha).
When I fired the right-rear Infinity it completely covered up the left-front factory speaker that I was about 18" away from
Last night I pulled the factory left-front and ran the three Kappas (RF, RR, LR) and it sounded awesome! I had the deck volume on 5 and could hear it 50 feet away at the work bench as if I had ear-buds in and an iPod in my hand.
I've never really cranked it up yet, but it hellaciusly loud at just 10-12.
My goal was never to bounce ping-pong balls or rattle trunk lids, but just to have music with great clarity that I could hear with the windows down. The factory 130-4 Speaker would just fadeout on our backroads at 60 mph and a window down...I would crank it to 18-20 to just "hear" the music and it was distorted pretty bad.
I ran errands tonight, but I'm hoping to get home from work tomorrow night, mod the driver's side pod (I ordered in spares, which is how I got the Bostons...the factory 130-4 Speaker stuff just gets boxed, lol), put sound deadener on both doors, re-install the panels, and get to the cruise.
I will break the system in for awhile and see how I like it...I am have tempted to order in an 8" sub while the rear deck is apart, lol. If I want more lows out of the system I could just wind up with a powered sub to make things easy.
All I can say is just one of the Kappas is a huge upgrade over the entire 130 4-Speaker set-up. Chrysler shouldn't put this system in anything and it sure as hell doesn't belong in the Mopar 10! This is a big reason I'm interested in the 130-430 breakdown on the registry.
