Santa Fe Springs, Calif. (Feb, 2011) – Mopars at the Strip, the largest Chrysler show in the West, was known for period-perfect show cars and drag racing - until last year when the Hotchkis/Keisler Autocross introduced a new type of corner carving competition to the show. After an outstanding turnout in 2010, Hotchkis Sport Suspension and Keisler Engineering have teamed up again to present an autocross at the 2011 show that will pit drivers against the clock as they fly around the cones at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The Autocross Challenge will give enthusiasts a chance to compete on a timed autocross course without leaving the car show parking lot. Autocross, which allows individual drivers to complete short timed laps on a short track, has experienced a huge boom in popularity in the muscle car world. At the 2011 Mopars at the Strip Show, April 8 through 10th, participants and spectators will be able to compete for trophies, bragging rights and glory.
Highlights will include a Media Shootout Friday at 1:00pm (all journalists and photographers are invited), a "Pony Car Wars" class where all Mustang, Camaro and Challenger owners are invited to battle for top time on the course, and a Drag/Auto-X Challenge where the vehicle with fastest combined times from the dragstrip and autocross course wins a trophy. Factory team drivers will also be giving demo rides sure to raise spectator's heartbeats.
In 2010, 11-time national autocross champion Mary Pozzi and four other Hotchkis "H-Team" drivers gave nearly 500 rides around the course while nearly 50 show attendees drove the course looking for speed and glory. This year the track will be faster and even more fun. Exhibition cars will include the Hotchkis 1970 "E-Max" Challenger, the Keisler "Maximum Overdrive" Barracuda, the Redline Gaugeworks 1969 Valiant and several other "H-Team" pro-touring Mopars. Skilled drivers will be on-hand to offer instruction.
